Employee tests positive at Iron County Medical Care Facility

Local health officials Friday added two new COVID-19 cases in Iron County, while the Iron County Medical Care Facility reported a second employee has been confirmed with the virus.

The employee was tested during the facility’s weekly clinic Wednesday, said Jessica Schultz, diversional therapy director at ICMCF.

“ICMCF will be reviewing this case and working with the local health department to determine if any further action is necessary,” Schultz said. ” We will continue to test employees and residents on a weekly basis.”

ICMCF will provide updates to its employees, residents, and residents’ representatives and families through posts on its webpage — www.ironcountymcf.com — in the emergency notification area as new information becomes available, Schultz said.

The facility disclosed its first ICMCF employee to test positive Aug. 7. Staff have been tested weekly since early July.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department did not provide any further information on the two new Iron County positives.

Little new information otherwise was available Friday on additional COVID-19 cases in the Upper Peninsula, as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services did not update numbers on its COVID-19 data site due to technical difficulties with reporting electronic lab results.

On the Wisconsin side of the region, that state’s COVID-19 data site showed 12 new cases in Marinette County, two in Iron County and one each in Forest and Florence counties that local health officials already had reported earlier in the week. Vilas County’s total was reduced by one, though the state number still exceeds by four the 84 cases the county’s health department posted on its Facebook page.

Also on Facebook, Forest County confirmed a 64th case Friday, an individual who was isolating at home.
