Forest County issues COVID advisory

Michigan’s COVID-19 data site Friday listed seven new positives in Menominee County, two in Delta and Houghton counties and one each in Dickinson, Chippewa, Ontonagon and Mackinac counties.

Across the border in Wisconsin, the Forest County Health Department was warning that anyone who visited Senolihn’s Bar and Collin’s Bar in Laona, Wis., on Tuesday and Wednesday may have been in proximity to an active COVID-19 case.

“If you think you were exposed at either establishment on those dates, stay home and quarantine for 14 days and call your health care provider to request getting tested,” the department advised.

Forest County health officials Friday also posted seven new positives, with one hospitalized, on its Facebook to reach a total of 77.

Other new cases for Wisconsin counties in the region included 12 in Marinette County, three in Forest County and one each in Iron and Vilas counties, according to the state’s coronavirus data site. On Facebook, Vilas County reported three more positives since Wednesday, to 99, while Iron County had 121 cases, three more than the state showed.

For the Upper Peninsula, the MDHHS data site Friday had Keweenaw County with two confirmed cases; Luce County, four confirmed cases; Baraga County, six confirmed cases and two probable; Schoolcraft County, 14 confirmed cases and one probable; Alger County, 16 confirmed and one probable; Mackinac County, 26 confirmed cases and eight probable; Iron County, 27 confirmed cases and one death; Ontonagon County, 33 confirmed and one probable; Chippewa County, 36 confirmed cases and 20 probable; Houghton County, 55 confirmed cases and nine probable; Dickinson County, 63 confirmed cases, one probable and two deaths; Delta County, 116 confirmed cases, 26 probable and three deaths; Gogebic County, 132 confirmed cases, 10 probable and a death; Marquette County, 204 confirmed cases, 34 probable and 11 deaths; and Menominee County, 212 confirmed cases and 31 probable. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services also earlier separately had prison inmates who were positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

Using only the state figures Friday, the Upper Peninsula has had 948 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date with 18 deaths.

The MDHSS reported 741 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Friday for a total of 100,699 to date. The state added six new deaths for a total of 6,446.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Friday had Marinette County with 594 cases and six deaths; Iron County 118 cases and one death; Vilas County 97 cases; Forest County 67 cases and four deaths; and Florence County 23 cases. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin recorded 843 new positives in the state Friday for a total of 73,981 to date, according to the state DHS data site. The state had two new COVID-19 deaths for a total of 1,113.

According to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department, Dickinson County as of Friday has had 64 confirmed COVID-19 positives, with 41 recovered, two deaths and 21 cases still active. Iron County has had 28 positives, with 15 recovered, one death and 12 still active.

Dickinson County Healthcare System as of Friday showed 19 cases from Dickinson County and 30 cases from other counties; those counties are not identified. DCHS has tested 3,098 people for COVID-19, with 49 positive, 2,975 negative and 74 results still pending. DCHS noted there are several additional sources of testing in Dickinson County.
