State: One virus death, 22 new cases across UP
State data Tuesday showed 22 new confirmed COVID-19 positives and one death in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Tuesday indicated six new confirmed cases in Houghton County, four in Dickinson County, three in Marquette and Mackinac counties, two in Delta and Chippewa counties, and one each in Iron and Baraga counties. The death came in Chippewa County.
Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 16,336 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 383 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 112 confirmed cases and 29 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 132 confirmed cases and 84 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 229 confirmed cases and 28 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 277 confirmed, 157 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 289 confirmed cases and 151 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 358 confirmed, 52 probable and 19 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 504 confirmed cases, 98 probable and 32 deaths; Chippewa County, 717 confirmed cases and 1,027 probable, and 23 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 866 confirmed cases and 61 probable, 40 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 921 confirmed cases and 340 probable, 19 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,614 confirmed cases, 262 probable and 35 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 2,100 confirmed cases, 520 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Dickinson County, 2,129 confirmed cases and 237 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,642 confirmed cases and 470 probable, 65 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,446 confirmed cases, 498 probable and 54 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS posted 1,316 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan on Tuesday for a total of 582,719. The state added 34 new deaths Tuesday — including 18 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 15,396.
For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Tuesday had 10 new confirmed positives in Vilas County, six in Iron County, three in Marinette County, and one each in Florence and Forest counties.
The DHS on Tuesday had Marinette County with 3,977 confirmed cases, 380 probable cases and 62 deaths, three probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,090 confirmed, 121 probable and 36 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 925 confirmed, 69 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 537 confirmed, 116 probable and 20 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 433 confirmed, 34 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Wisconsin added 566 new positives Tuesday for a total of 560,564 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state had 33 new deaths Tuesday to reach 6,317.
The Dickinson-Iron County Health Department has switched to updating its figures only twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays.
The DIDHD on Monday had Dickinson County at 2,130 confirmed positives and 238 probable cases, with 2,243 recovered, 67 deaths and 58 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD had 866 confirmed cases and 64 probables, with 857 recovered, 46 deaths and 27 still active.
