State data shows UP virus cases rise by only 10

The Upper Peninsula added a total of 10 new confirmed COVID-19 positives Tuesday, with no changes for Dickinson or Iron counties, according to state health data.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 site Tuesday showed six new cases in Marquette County, two each in Houghton and Mackinac counties and one in Chippewa County; Gogebic County’s count was reduced by one.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 16,434 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 386 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 115 confirmed cases and 29 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 132 confirmed cases and 90 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 229 confirmed cases and 28 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 277 confirmed, 157 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 292 confirmed cases and 151 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 358 confirmed, 52 probable and 19 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 507 confirmed cases, 99 probable and 32 deaths; Chippewa County, 723 confirmed cases and 1,038 probable, and 23 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 866 confirmed cases and 61 probable, 40 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 928 confirmed cases and 342 probable, 20 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,617 confirmed cases, 263 probable and 35 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,131 confirmed cases and 240 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Houghton County, 2,133 confirmed cases, 528 probable, 33 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 2,664 confirmed cases and 476 probable, 65 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,462 confirmed cases, 500 probable and 55 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Tuesday posted 1,067 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total of 590,217. The state added 24 new deaths Tuesday — including 12 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 15,558.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Tuesday had four new confirmed positives in Iron County and one in Vilas County, while Marinette County’s count was reduced by 21 and Forest County’s total by one.

The DHS on Tuesday had Marinette County with 3,960 confirmed cases, 404 probable cases and 63 deaths, three probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,141 confirmed, 125 probable and 36 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 924 confirmed, 69 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 545 confirmed, 117 probable and 20 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 434 confirmed, 34 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 324 new positives Tuesday for a total of 564,592 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 28 new deaths Tuesday to reach 6,440.
