Cleaning up after the storm

Severe thunderstorms went through the area late Monday night, with winds strong enough to take down many trees and power lines in region. The Chapman family at 818 E. C St. in Iron Mountain had a tall pine tree come down on their vehicle about midnight. Jaran Chapman said he had just gotten dressed to go secure a trampoline outside, only seconds before the tree came down. The Chapmans were home with their three daughters, Isabella, Nova and Lillian, when the tree toppled, barely missing their home. A neighbor used his crane Tuesday morning to lift the tree off the car. Here, Steve Schallow, left, of the Iron Mountain Fire Department helps Samantha and Jaran Chapman load branches and debris from the fallen pine. (Terri Castelaz/Daily News photo)

The storm also left debris and downed trees along M-95 and M-69 in Dickinson County. We Energies reported widespread outages in the Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin, with nearly 2,000 customers left without power in Dickinson and Wisconsin’s Florence County alone Tuesday morning. That number was down to about 400 by 10 p.m.
