Jubilee throwback
Each week The Daily News is reprinting photos from its files, as well as featuring older pictures on its Facebook page, along with submissions from the public. Today’s “Throwback Thursday” photo is the Kingsford Diamond Jubilee Committee from 1998 — from left, in front are Laurie Jessen, Shelley Byrne and Kathy Edwards; in the second row are Tina Whaley and Janet Goad; in the third row are Bruno Maule, Dennis Charette, Herb Knudson and Darryl Wickman; in the fourth row are John Jessen, Doug Cook and Tom Sullivan; and in back are Mick Flaminio and Roger Scott. The Kingsford Centennial Committee will have its first organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, in the second-floor council chambers at Kingsford City Hall. A committee spokesperson said the event is expected to be bigger than the Diamond Jubilee in 1998 that attracted more than 10,000 people. A number of the original committee members now want to be involved in planning the centennial event, but more volunteers will be needed to help organize and conduct the activities. Those interested are asked to attend the July 20 meeting.
