Back too soon?
As a light snow falls Monday afternoon, a trio of trumpeter swans relax along with Canada geese and mallard ducks in a patch of open water on Six Mile Creek just past where it connects with Six Mile Lake in northern Dickinson County. Waterfowl are beginning to return to the Upper Peninsula, though the trumpeter swans normally remain in the region through the winter wherever they can find open water. While last week and the weekend had mostly mild and sunny weather, the National Weather Service forecast for this week calls for a wintry mix of freezing rain, snow and rain today and Wednesday, snow possible Thursday and cooler temperatures through the weekend, though skies should at least offer more sun Friday into Sunday.
