Groeneveld, Olson elected in Kingsford; IM council pay, NC bond OK’d
One incumbent Kingsford City Council member retained his seat while another was defeated Tuesday.
Joe Groeneveld, the incumbent mayor, received 475 votes in the three-way race for two seats, while challenger Angela Olson placed second with 335 votes.
Incumbent Dennis Baldinelli finished out of the running with 295 votes.
In Iron Mountain, voters approved an increase in council pay to $25 per meeting up to a maximum of $1,250 per year. The vote was 376 yes to 262 no.
The current pay rate of $10 per meeting and a maximum of $500 per year has been in place since 1985. The new scale will take effect Jan. 1.
In West Branch Township, write-in candidate Penny Skogman was the apparent winner in an election to fill a term as township supervisor through Nov. 20, 2026. Skogman received 25 write-in votes while Clarissa Dixon, who was on the ballot, received 11 votes.
In the North Central School District, voters approved borrowing $10.3 million to help consolidate the district’s schools into one facility. The vote was 589 yes to 423 no.
In a race for two Caspian City Commission seats, challenger Paul Eident was elected with 64 votes, along with incumbent Michael Stachowicz, 58 votes. Incumbent Ancella Thurston trailed with 44 votes.
In a four-way race for two seats on the Iron River City Council, challenger Martha Burdick was elected with 255 votes along with incumbent Anthony Clements, 213 votes. Finishing out of the running were Mark Polley, 180 votes, and incumbent Benjamin Garcia, 186 votes.
