Badgers slip past Patriots

PEMBINE, Wis — Long time rivals squared off Friday night when the Niagara Badgers made the short trip down U.S. 141 to Pembine to take on the Goodman-Pembine Patriots. In a low scoring game, the Badgers prevailed 47-44 in non-conference action.

Niagara, who recorded its first win a week ago against Three Lakes, moves to 2-4 on the season. The Badgers were led by Dawson Lincoln and Sladen Dunlap, who each scored 10 points.

Badgers head coach Steve Derwinski noted that Dunlap took over the game for a four- or five-minute stretch in the second half. “The kids played really hard and really well for the second straight game,” Derwinski said.

Josh Weber added eight points and 10 rebounds for Niagara.

“We did not play up to our standards tonight, a disappointing performance for us in front of our home crowd. We were very rusty and sloppy in our first game back from the holiday break.” said G-P head coach Jeff Zerbst.

Boone Larison led all scorers with 15 points for the host Patriots. Landon Kalkofen added 10 points.

“We turned the ball over, could not rebound, could not get a shot to fall. Missed more layups than I could even count. Back to the drawing board for us, we have work to do.” Zerbst said.

Niagara, who also won the JV game 39-32, is at Marinette-Oconto Conference foe Lena on Tuesday, before return home on Friday to host Oneida Nation in another M&O Conference game.

The Patriots, who fall to 3-2 on the season, host non-conference foe Mercer on Tuesday at Goodman High School, before returning to Pembine on Thursday to host Three Lakes in Northern Lakes Conference action.
