Flivvers drop downstate games
SAGINAW — The Kingsford Flivvers hockey team dropped a pair of non-conference hockey games below the bridge last weekend.
On Saturday afternoon, the Flivvers played competitive hockey into the second period before falling to Division 1 foe Saginaw Heritage 7-2.
“Our boys played one of the best, if not the best, period of hockey so far on the season in the first period,” said Kingsford Coach Greg Wadge, noting that Heritage is ranked No. 3 in the state in Division 1.
Kingsford’s first period goal was scored by Hunter Fortner, with an assist credited to Reece Fortner. Dan Maki scored the second Flivver goal of the game, a second period tally, with Reece Fortner getting his second assist of the game on the Maki goal.
“We took way too many penalties in the third period,” Wadge said. “That led to them (Heritage) scoring three more goals to put the game out of reach.”
Despite outshooting Davidson by almost a two to one ratio, the Cardinals defeated Kingsford 5-1 in Flint.
“We didn’t shoot from good areas of our zone and they did, plain and simple,” said Wadge.
David Juul scored the lone Flivver goal against Davidson, on an assist by Tyler Bengston.
The Flivvers (4-7) travel to Escanaba on Tuesday for a GLHC game.
