Knights’ boys roll past Nordics

NORWAY — With three players recording double figures in scoring, Norway overcame a 10-point first-quarter deficit and cruised past North Dickinson 63-42 in Skyline Central boys basketball action on Monday night.

The Knights’ Kody Hendricks and North Dickinson’s Cameron Schultz led all scorers with 21 points each.

Norway head coach Jeff Gallino’s concern at the beginning of the game dissipated as the second half wore on.

“We didn’t come out of the locker room like we should have to start the game,” he said. “Coach (Chris) Mattson had his boys ready to play, and it was 10-0 before we knew it. I give them a ton of credit. They are well-coached and play very hard.”

Logan Parolini and Jeff Van Holla combined for 32 points, with 16 apiece for the Knights.

“Jeff VanHolla had a heck of a game tonight for us,” Gallino said. “We battled back after halftime and got our running game going.”

Norway outscored the Nordics 41-19 in the second half.

“The game was hard-fought through the first half and I was happy with our defensive intensity,” said Mattson. “We did a good job checking Hendricks in the first half. We also played with a lot of energy until the third quarter, then we wore out from their running game.”

Mattson also noted that Colt Glasheen rebounded very well tonight, with a team-high eight rebounds. “Jeff (Gallino) made a great adjustment, in order to get the ball down low to Hendricks in the second half,” Mattson said.

Norway (5-3) remains home to welcome in non-conference foe Florence. Norway and Florence have not met for high school boys basketball since the 1973-74 season.

The Nordics (2-6) travel to Kingsford the same night, also for non-conference action.

Norway won the JV game to remain undefeated at 8-0.
