Bobcat boys fall to Wausaukee
FLORENCE, Wis. — Florence had three players score in double figures, with Preston Stoltz recording a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to hold off Wausaukee as they had four players in double figures, and defeated the Bobcats 68-62 in non-conference boys basketball action here Friday night.
Hayden Benikow led all scorers with 21 points for the Rangers, while Kaden Schuls of the Bobcats netted a team-high 19 points. Freshman Evan Johnson scored 12 points and dished out eight assists for the Bobcats, who slip to 15-5 on the season with the loss.
Andrew Schroeder with 17, Tristan Pollard with 15 and Brandon Shigouri with 11 were the other three Wausaukee players scoring in double figures on the night.
“Extremely tough one to lose tonight. We led almost the whole game and then at about the five-minute mark, something changed and offensively Wausaukee got after it more than we did,” said Florence head coach Bryan Bomberg.
“We could not get defensive stops when we needed too. This makes our road in the WIAA tournament tougher, but we’ll regroup, with two games in our regular season left to play. Credit the Rangers for finishing a tough game,” Bomberg said.
Florence remains home for their last two games, as they return to action Monday night, hosting their last Northern Lakes Conference game of the season when they face Three Lakes. On Thursday, Forest Park visits Florence for a non-conference game, the final game of the regular season for the Bobcats.
Florence won the JV contest 54-46, with Dominic DeMuri scoring 12 points.
