Brule among those whose season cut short due to virus

ITHACA, N.Y. – Former Iron Mountain High School standout Katie Brule’s senior hoops season ended due to cancellation for COVID-19. The 2016 Iron Mountain graduate is a team captain on the women’s basketball team at Division III Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.

On March 12 the NCAA canceled the remainder of all Winter Sports tournaments, which ended the Williams College Ephs tournament run, and Brule’s career as a Lady Eph. Brule and her teammates were set to take on Tufts University on March 13 in the Sweet 16 (third round) of the Division III women’s basketball tournament.

In their round two game, Williams defeated the Ithaca Bombers 69-61 to advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since the 2012-2013 season. Brule, a starter, scored four points in 21 minutes of play.

To open NCAA tournament play, the Ephs took on Albright College, cruising to a 68-46 win at Ithaca University. Brule recorded six points, three steals, three blocks and snared a team-high nine rebounds in 27 minutes of play.

Brule, was a Division 2 U.P Champion tennis player for four consecutive years (2012-15) and was named Division 2 Player of the Year for three straight years in (2013-15). She was also named All-UP First Team ABC in basketball in her senior season in 2016.

She is the daughter of David III and Stephanie Brule of Iron Mountain.
