North Dickinson announces student athlete award winners
FELCH TOWNSHIP — Briana Smith and Skye Ledzian have been chosen for the Earl Dixon Award at North Dickinson County High School.
The Earl Dixon Award is the most prestigious athletic award presented at North Dickinson. Athletic Director Mike Roell said the athletic awards for the 2019-20 school year will be posted on the district’s website this afternoon.
Some special awards were given out, as well the team awards decided by the coaches in all sports from the fall and winter seasons.
The Earl Dixon award is given to two senior athletes who have competed in all four years of either football, basketball and track or volleyball, basketball and track. Other criteria that are included are athletic ability, dependability, sportsmanship, leadership, self-discipline, competitiveness, team work and being a coachable player.
Both Smith and Ledzian competed in varsity track as eighth graders. Smith was unavailable for a photo at the award presentation due to being out of town, Roell noted.
No boys this year qualified for the Earl Dixon Award.
The Doug Lehto Award is given out to the varsity boys basketball player with the highest grade-point average. This year’s recipient is Cuyler Crites.
Roell said seniors can pick up their plaques and awards at the school from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Underclassmen will receive their trophies and packets when they get back to school in the fall.
