Forest Park holds off Newberry
NEWBERRY — Forest Park opened its 2020 football season traveling to Newberry for a non-conference matchup. The Trojans defeated Newberry 20-12.
“We got off on the right foot, got out to an early lead, and held on for the win,” said Trojans head coach David Graff. “We have a young team this year, more underclassmen than upper, and I am happy with our first game performance.”
Quarterback Gabe Scarlassara had a big night for FP, with a stat line of 45 carries, 187 rushing yards, a rushing TD, and also two touchdowns passing. Tommy Showers was on the receiving end of both of the tosses.
“Scarlassara had a real nice game for us, got better as the game went on, running very solid in the second half,” Graff said. “Showers had a great game as well, blocking and catching passes.”
Graff noted that FP had a nice drive to end the game, around six minuets in duration, to run out the clock to secure the win.
The Trojans (1-0) have their home opener Friday night, hosting Carney-Nadeau at Dick Mettlach Field.
