Ladycats get first volleyball victory

Florence tops White Lake 3-0

FLORENCE, Wis. — In Northern Lakes Conference girls volleyball action Thursday, Florence defeated White Lake 3-0 (25-15,25-17, 25-5) .

“The girls played well and are still learning their positions, and coming together as a team, said first-year coach Teresa Chrisman. “Every practice and game we are building from the one before.”

Lacey Enders led with 6 aces, while Madison Johnson had 100% serving with four aces. Johnson also led in assists with 19.

Freshman Bella Millan tallied 14 serving points and Sidney Tomczak also had 100% serving. Morgan Tomczak and Bella Millan each had six spike kills.

Ladycats, (1-1) host Goodman-Pembine tonight in another varsity only Northern Lakes matchup, beginning at 6 p.m.

On Tuesday, Florence lost its season opener to the Laona-Wabeno Lady Rebels 3-0 (25-17,25-11,25-11) at Laona High School.

Leading the way for the Ladycats with nine spike kills was Sidney Tomczak, She also dished 17 assists in the Northern Lakes Conference matchup.

“We started slow and a bit nervous. We only have two seniors and the rest of our starters are freshmen and sophomores,” said Chrisman, who takes over for Joan Canfield.

“Laona-Wabeno was a strong team as they usually are. But I saw improvement from the first set to the last, we just need to keep building on that,” Chrisman said.

Florence players with 100% serving were Bella Millan, Maddie Johnson, Lacey Enders and Tyley Fyvie.

The Florence JVs lost all three sets to the Rebels as well.
