Lady Badgers sweep Norway

NIAGARA, Wis — In non-conference girls volleyball on Thursday evening, Niagara hosted Norway. The Lady Badgers swept the Lady Knights in straight sets (25-14, 25-19, 25-13).

“The girls started out playing up to their potential and dominated at the net. Set two, we played less aggressive but finished strong, and set three we finished where we started,” said veteran Niagara head coach Carol St. Arnuald. “I’m proud of my girls as we finished our regular season 10-2.”

“It was good to get another game in tonight knowing both of our match’s next week are already canceled,” said Norway coach Erica Harnden. “Niagara is a tough team but I feel we played competitive. We have some things to focus on and are eager for our next match.”

Harnden noted that Norway led for most of the second set, but Niagara came back with a 9 point scoring run to finish it out.

St. Arnauld added, “Alyssa Cretton dominated at the net with 21 kills, and Morgan Borchardt ran our offense well with 27 assists.” Cretton added nine digs as did Bailey Pearson.

“We need to keep our focus as we have our first Regional match next Thursday. I’ve told my girls time and time again that if they play up to their potential, the sky’s the limit,” said St. Arnauld.

Norway returns to action on Monday, Oct. 26 when they host Skyline Central Conference foe Carney-Nadeau. Niagara opens WIAA tournament play on Thursday, when they host non-conference rival Florence at 7 p.m.
