West Iron stymies FP
STAMBAUGH — In a rivalry non-conference game, West Iron dispatched Forest Park 54-31 in girls basketball action Thursday night at the Charles Greenlund Gymnasium.
The Shamion sisters combined for 37 points for the Wykons, with freshman Danica netting a game-high 19 points and her sister Jordan snaring 15 rebounds to register her first double-double of the season.
“FP jumped out to a 5-2 lead but we switched to a zone defense and created several turnovers that led to easy buckets. We ended the half on a 35-10 run,” said WIC head coach Eric Shamion. “I like the energy our girls played with tonight.”
Amya Johnson led the Lady Trojans with 14 points, with Gracie Peterson adding eight points as FP opened its season with a loss.
The Trojans (0-1, 0-0 Skyline Central) travel to Superior Central on Monday, before hosting Rapid River on Tuesday. Both games are SCC contests.
West Iron (2-0, 1-0 West PAC) travels to Hancock on Monday, before hosting Negaunee on Tuesday and Calumet on Thursday. All three games are West PAC Conference tilts.
