Iron Mountain sweeps DH at Negaunee
Julian strikes out 8, Kleiman homers
NEGAUNEE — A 10 run sixth inning and 13 hits in game one for Iron Mountain, and a game two win by a trio of runs, as the Mountaineers swept a West PAC Conference doubleheader from Negaunee, 18-9 and 5-2 here Tuesday afternoon.
Seniors Ian Anderson drove in four runs and Blake Julian drove in three to lead the Mountaineers offensive attack in the opening game. Fellow senior Jurgen Kleiman cracked a two run home run in game one for IM.
Julian cracked two doubles, with Anderson and Caleb Evosevich-Hynes also recording doubles.
The Mountaineers used four pitchers in the contest, with Julian getting the bulk of the innings, he fanned eight and walked three, while not allowing a hit or an earned run in picking up the win. Carson McLean, Ezekiel Runsat and Anderson were the other three Mountaineers pitchers, to come from behind in game one.
Michael Colavecchi and Evan Haferkorn toed the mound for the Mountaineers in game two, with Colavecchi picking up the win and Haferkorn the save.
Niko Burgoon, Tony Kralovec, Joey Dumais, Dante Basanese and Evosevich-Hynes each drove in a run for the Mountaineers in the night cap. Basanese and Caleb Burklund each hit a double.
The Mountaineers will travel to Houghton to take on the Gremlins at 10 a.m. Central in a MHSAA Division 3 District semifinal. The finals of the District are scheduled for 3 p.m. Central versus the winner of the Noon Central Negaunee vs. Calumet game.
