Norway powers past LL-H, 30-8, for first 8-player win
LAKE LINDEN — After trailing until early in the fourth quarter, Norway pulled out its first on-field win in 8-player competition, defeating Lake Linden-Hubbell 30-8 in a Great Lakes Conference West Division matchup Saturday afternoon at Ron Warner Field in Lake Linden.
The Knights put 24 points on the scoreboard in the final quarter.
Junior Michael Peterson scored on a 15-yard run and threw a touchdown pass to Kyle Napientek. Senior Gabe Hautamaki scampered 20 yards for a touchdown, as well as running in a pair of conversions.
Norway’s first-half touchdown came on a 25-yard pass to senior Aiden Richards from senior Nathaniel Nanney, who completed 15 of 26 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns in the game. Richards caught three passes for 62 yards and a touchdown.
Norway had 269 offensive yards to LL-H’s 164. Hautamaki led Norway rushing with 64 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.
Peterson had 55 yards and a touchdown on five carries.
The Knights will make another long trip this week, as they travel to Ironwood on Friday night to face fellow first-year 8-player competitors the Red Devils.
The Knights (2-1), which won by forfeit earlier this season over Carney-Nadeau, return home to face Forest Park on Sept. 24.
Norway head coach Scott Popp did not return an inquiry from the Daily News for comments on the game.
