NORWAY — Two solid Dickinson County varsity baseball teams met for a doubleheader on Friday, and after all was said and done, Kingsford and Norway split their twinbill.

In the opener, the Flivvers built an 8-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth and then stopped the Knights rally one run shy in their 8-7 victory.

In the nightcap, Issac Lorenzoni and Chase Carlson shut down Kingsford for just 1 hit over the 6 innings as the Knights won the pitchers’ dual 2-0.

In the first game, Andres Finley went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs to spark Kingsford’s 6-hit attack. Garrett Brown coaxed 2 walks and delivered a double while scoring 3 runs for the Flivvers.

Norway, which scored 4 of its runs in the fourth inning, were led by Carlson, who belted 2 doubles, knocked in 1 and scored 3. Michael Peterson provided a big 3-run double during the fourth-inning rally. Carson Chartier chipped in with 2 RBIs for the Knights.

“Game 1 was an exciting game with some big swings in momentum,” Norway coach Tony Adams said. “I thought we did enough at the end to potentially win, but we also put ourselves in a position to be down.

“I love the way our kids competed tonight against a good Kingsford team. We are heading in the right direction.”

In the finale, Lorenzoni pitched 4 hitless innings and fanned 5, while Carlson surrendered just 1 hit over the last 2 frames. Lorenzoni struck out 5 and walked 3 to notch the win.

“It was great to see Isaac Lorenzoni be able to get back on the mound and feel good as well as pitch effectively,” Adams said.

Norway scored a single run in the bottom of the first and then added an insurance run in the third.

Carlson and Landon Amundsen each drove in a run for the Knights. Carlson and Brent Lagina both recorded two hits, while Alex Ortman ripped a double and scored a run.

Sawyer Push started for the Flivvers, pitching the first inning. He allowed 2 hits, an earned run and struck out the side. Juneau worked the next 3 innings before Weber pitched the final inning.
