A final thought before voting Tuesday

The presidential election is Tuesday. The issues facing our nation are wide-reaching. Setting the candidates themselves aside, we are left with their policies. Policies matter, feelings do not. What are some of these policies and the viewpoints of each candidate? Globalism. One candidate, Donald Trump, believes in nationalism. Making things here in the U.S. by people employed here in the U.S. The other candidate, who helped to pass NAFTA which enabled the outsourcing of millions of factory jobs at an unprecedented rate and helped to destroy whole communities, now wants things made here ...

Some thoughts on election

EDITOR: Days away from the election, here are some thoughts. Our American system of government is messy but has functioned pretty well through a lot of chaotic times since 1776. The flow of information on all the issues is voluminous, fast-paced and often contradictory. Do your best to search out the truth from competing sources of information. EDITOR: Now is the time for some truth. We know what a disaster the first presidential debate was. Every intelligent American and the rest of the world knew President Trump’s rantings were his oft-repeated lies. Ditto the third debate. The old adage, “he lies so much he believes it himself” is Trump in capital letters. Here in Iron Mountain, we have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. People have lost income or even a loved one because of this disease or the threat of it. Most have had to cancel or postpone at least some of their planned activities. Lesser regard for the truth

EDITOR: I appreciated your Oct. 17 article by Suzanne Killian. As was she, I was raised in a home where honesty, integrity and decency ruled. Lying, bullying and stirring up anger were not tolerated. The truth was the truth. News was news and lies were lies. There was no entertainment “news” on television like FOX and CNN whose sole purpose is to prey on our basic fears to drive ratings.
