Northwoods Geology Club picnic Sunday

FLORENCE, Wis. — The Northwoods Geology Club will have a picnic at Keyes Lake pavilion beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday. Those planning to attend should follow Highway 101 south out of Florence for a few miles and will find the park on the right. The club will provide sandwiches and soft beverages. Participants should bring a dish to pass, dessert or something to snack on. A short meeting will take place, including election of officers. Anything rock or mineral-related to swap, sell or give away should be brought along as well.

Stamp club meets on Aug. 20

IRON MOUNTAIN — The monthly meeting of the Northwoods Philatelic Society stamp club is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, in the fellowship room of First Lutheran Church, 1210 S. Stephenson Ave. in Iron Mountain. The church is between Domino’s Pizza and Slumberland Furniture. A short business meeting and educational program, will be followed by the usual informal stamp club auction. Holy Spirit School fundraiser set

IRON MOUNTAIN — A German-themed fundraiser for Holy Spirit Catholic School in Norway is planned at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at the Sandstone Terrace in Iron Mountain. They will serve a German menu including grilled beer brats with assorted toppings; hot German potato salad; rotkohl, German red cabbage; pretzel sticks with beer dip, along with two German desserts, Donauwellen kuchen, Danube wave cake, kasekuchen, cheesecake and versunken afelkuchen, sunken apple cake.
