HANCOCK — An 18-year-old Hancock man was arrested following the fatal shooting Monday of a 38-year-old woman in Houghton County, according to Michigan State Police at the Calumet post.

Isaiah Strieter was arraigned Wednesday in the 97th District Court on open murder charges in the death of Ashlee Harvey.

Strieter is also charged with possessing a firearm — a 9-mm pistol — while committing a felony.

After reports of gunfire, officers arrived at a home on Quincy Street in Franklin Township Monday afternoon, where they found Harvey’s body. Strieter was arrested several hours later.

He will be held without bond.

During the discussion on bond, Strieter said if he was released, he couldn’t go out in public.

“I’m never going to mentally recover from this,” he said, adding he wished he could go back in time.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Feb. 16.

Police did not say if Strieter is related to or knew the victim. The homicide remains under investigation.
