SHINGLETON — Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post are investigating a fatal fire that took place early Thursday in Shingleton.

The MSP reported that troopers were called to a residential fire along Percy Road in Shingleton in the early morning hours. Upon arrival, they discovered the residence was engulfed in flames.

The Munising Township Fire Department attempted to extinguish the fire, but the structure was a total loss. After entering the residence, a deceased male body was located, police said.

The fire remains under investigation. No names will be released until next of kin are notified.

Alger County EMS and the Au Train Township Fire Department assisted at the fire.
