KINGSFORD — A Mafia wedding in the 1920s will be the setting for a special murder mystery fundraising dinner Friday evening at Venue 906 in Kingsford.
MJE Cares, the non-profit organization for M.J. Electric, is hosting the event to raise money for ongoing community work.
The dinner theater is put on by The Murder Mystery Co., based in Grand Rapids, with the theme “Death of a Gangster.”
According to the company’s website: “Lucky you! You’ve been invited to the Dunn Speakeasy for the wedding of the year! In this ‘married to the mob’ event, you’ll never know who to trust. With the two families merging together, someone is bound to lose power, which means someone else will lose their life! Get on the trolley and solve this case with your fellow detectives.
“Dress like the cat’s meow for this Mafia wedding! Flapper dresses, zoot suits, feather boas and headbands, pinstriped suits and fedoras are all appropriate. Traditional wedding attire is nifty, too!” the website states.
“We wanted to offer something different — a fundraiser that brings the community together in a fun, interactive way while supporting a great cause,” event coordinator Jennifer Pericolosi said. “The Murder Mystery Gala will be a fantastic night for everyone who enjoys a good challenge, with plenty of twists and turns to keep guests on their toes.”
Actors from The Murder Mystery Co. will be dispersed among the attendees, playing key suspects in a story that will unravel over the course of the evening.
“There are three cast members and they pick people out of the audience to be involved in the murder mystery itself,” Pericolosi said.
As guests dine and mingle, they’ll collect clues, question suspects and collaborate to uncover the culprit behind the crime. Prizes will be awarded to the top sleuths who crack the case.
Guests are encouraged to dress in their best 1920s-inspired outfits, with a prize offered for best costume adding an extra layer of fun to the night. In addition to the mystery-solving, the event will feature a silent auction and raffle.
Doors open at 5 p.m. The cost, which includes dinner and entertainment, is $65 per person. Tickets are available online at https://venue-906-llc.square.site. There are also prices for couples and tables.
The event is part of the ongoing fundraising for MJE Cares, Pericolosi said. According to the company’s website, “MJE Cares provides financial assistance for employees in need, community programs, charitable services, and community members in need.”
“We were just looking for a way to involve the community in our fundraising efforts and we thought that this would be a fun idea,” Pericolosi said.
“Our community is close to all our hearts, and we are aiming to raise funding to continue to make a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve,” she said.
