Baseball: Flivvers split with Knights to end drought

QUINNESEC – Kingsford scored a six-run fifth to put away Norway 8-3 in the first game of a doubleheader split on Friday.

The Flivvers (2-7) strung together seven hits in the fifth to help win their first game since April 26 at Menominee.

Norway (10-4) took the second game 5-3.

Luke Terrian hit a solo home run in the third inning of the first game and singled in the fifth. Hunter Lindeman and Andrew Paupore had two singles.

Paupore pitched for Kingsford and gave up four hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Payton Thompson pitched for Norway and gave up eight runs on 12 hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

Isaac Ray singled twice for Norway. Hunter McCarthy and Trevor Anderson also singled.

In the second game, Norway scored three runs in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.

Kingsford tied in the bottom of the inning and the Knights responded with a pair of runs in the sixth for the win.

Kody Hendricks doubled in the sixth for Norway.

Ryley Juneau, Nolan LaVarnway, Ben Stanish and Noah Wilcox had hits for Kingsford.

Kingsford plays at Escanaba today. Norway hosts Escanaba on Monday.

ELCHO, Wis. — Southpaw Mac Morrison tossed a three-hitter and Elcho blanked Florence 13-0 in a five-inning Northern Lakes Conference baseball game.

Morrison struck out six and walked none. Two Florence pitchers gave up 10 hits wwith four strikeouts and seven walks.

Coach Dave LaPoint’s Bobcats (2-4, 1-4) had singles from

Kaden Schuls, Cody Reubens and Tyler Novak.

The Hornets plated five runs in the third inning and seven in the fourth.
