IRON MOUNTAIN — After two weeks of bowling in the Upper Peninsula High School Bowling Conference, Iron Mountain rolls at home today. Action begins at 10 a.m. at Recreation Lanes.

The Mountaineers, who field boys, girls and junior varsity (X) teams, competed Saturday, Dec. 7, at Whirl-I-Gig Bowl in L’Anse.

The boys won handily, taking 39 out of a possible 40 points from the host Purple Hornets.

Leading the charge was senior Zach Spera, who tossed a 612 series on games of 213, 182 and 217. Fellow senior Zach Hanson followed with a 570 series, which included games of 200 and 201. Junior Logan Galbraith shot a 542 series with a high game of 202.

All bowlers claimed all three individual points. Junior Nathan Arndt, bowling only two games, shot 379 with a high game of 218. Arndt claimed both individual points.

Also taking both his points was sophomore Hunter Lautzenheiser, with a high game of 172. Senior Josh Freeman chipped in an individual point.

Paced by junior Alexis Jacko’s 577 series (181,182, 214), the Mountaineers bested L’Anse 35-5. Jacko won all three individual points.

Junior Jane McCallister came next with a 458 series with a high game of 175 and three points. Close behind was senior Tamera Jaeger with 438 and two points.

Also taking two points were seniors Hanna Bastian (174 game) and Stephanie List (149 game). Junior Adrienne Taylor added an individual point.

Mountaineer “X” team bowled in a bye situation and came away with 22 out of 40 points. Sophomore Dakota Jaeger led the way with a 473 series, rolling a high game of 170 and winning all three individual points.

Sophomore Andrew Morgan fashioned a 427 series which included a 171 game. Morgan also captured all three individual points. Sophomore Zach Rankin had a high game of 177 and won two points. Chipping in a point each were freshman Derrick Washbish and Junior Matthew Keebaugh.

In the following week, IM teams bowling on extremely demanding conditions at Superior Lanes in Marquette.

Mountaineer boys topped Ishpeming by taking 25 of 40 points.

Spera again led the Mountaineers with a 584 series and high games of 243 and 201, winning two individual points. Hanson was next with a 515 series, 200 high game and two points. Also taking two points was Logan Galbraith while Dakota Jaeger chipped in one point.

Iron Mountain “X” downed the Gladstone Braves 35.5 to 4.5. Hunter Lautzenheiser paced the team with a 414 series (high game 179), winning all three points.

Also winning all three points was Zach Rankin. Junior Austin Marier (high game 170) won 2.5 points, tying his opponent in game one. Derrick Washbish and Andrew Morgan added two individual points apiece while Matthew Keebaugh chipped in one point.

Mountaineer girls suffered their first loss, winning only 11 of 40 points to the bye.

Jacko paced the Mountaineers with a 461 series (high game 178) while winning two points. Stephanie List was next with a 428 series, winning all three individual points. Winning a point each were Jane McCallister and Hanna Bastian.
