Forest Park to dedicate new weight room to fallen SEAL

JOSEPH SCHWEDLER

CRYSTAL FALLS — There will be a ceremony Friday to dedicate a new weight room at the Eddie Chambers Memorial Gymnasium at Forest Park High School in memory of a fallen alumnus.

Joseph Clark Schwedler, a 1997 Forest Park graduate and a member of the elite Navy SEALs, was killed in action in Al Anbar, Iraq, on April 6, 2007.

The Forest Park School District has invited, along with the Schwedler family, Navy SEAL Senior Chief Petty Officer Mike Day, retired, who will be one of the guest speakers. Day was one of two other SEALs injured in the attack that took Schwedler’s life.

Scott Holmes, a 1996 Forest Park graduate and a lifelong friend of Schwedler, will return home to Crystal Falls from downstate Michigan to speak at the dedication.

Another member of Schwedler’s SEAL Team 4 unit has also accepted the invitation to attend.

The dedication will take place between the junior varsity and varsity boys basketball games Friday against Carney-Nadeau. The JV game tips off at 5:30 p.m.
