Wolves sink school record for triples in 87-64 win over ND
FELCH — Brett LaFord drained 10 triples on his way to 34 points and Carney-Nadeau hit for a school-record 22 treys in an 87-65 victory over North Dickinson Friday night.
“I thought we came out and shot well the whole game, in the second half especially. We were getting good looks, said Carney-Nadeau head coach Paul Polfus. “But any team always looks good when they make so many shots.”
The 22 made three pointers in a game broke the old school record of 20 for the Wolves.
“We played efficiently offensively, however we couldn’t overcome their three-point shooting,” said Nordics head coach Chris Mattson. “We played right with them in the first half, their third quarter scoring barrage was something else.”
Maximus Mattson led the Nordics with 20 points, while Cameron Schultz chipped in 19, and Justin Slagle added 11.
Beau Koffman netted 20 points for the Wolves, while Jerry Lee LaFord canned 17.
“We didn’t defend the three-point line tonight, nor did we rebound well enough, coach Mattson said. ” The kids played hard, and never gave up despite the way they shot against us.”
North Dickinson (4-12) plays at Republic-Michigamme Tuesday.
“We’ve had a goal as of late, for the boys to shoot an extra 1,000 shots a week either before or after practice. They are sticking to it and it’s paying off for us I feel,” said Polfus.
C-N won the JV game 55-44, with Peyton Imhoff netting 24 for the Wolves. Carney-Nadeau (12-9) is off until Friday when Forest Park visits to wrap up their regular season.
