Hord, Parolini named February’s top prep athletes

IRON MOUNTAIN – North Dickinson’s Ashton Hord and Norway’s Logan Parolini were named the Hometowne Lumber male and female Athletes of the Month for February.

Hord, as sophomore guard for the Nordics, averaged 18 points and five rebounds per game, while having a 79% free throw percentage for the month.

“Ashton had a really good month of February for us,” said Nordics head coach Kirk Mattson. “Along with her offense, she was also very solid defensively, and she was a very good rebounder for a guard. For only being a sophomore Ashton played like a senior for us all season.”

The Nordics finished the regular season with an 18-2 record and went undefeated in Skyline Central Conference play, winning the Small School Division of the SCC in the process.

Parolini, a junior guard for the Knights, averaged 17 points and five rebounds per game in February.

“Logan had some tremendous games for us throughout the month of February,” said Norway head coach Jeff Gallino. “He dedicated a ton of time in the offseason to improve his game from last year.”

Norway finished 13-7 in the regular season, clinching a share of the Skyline Central Conference Large School Division crown with Munising.

Athletes of the Month are automatically in the running for the Hometowne Lumber male and female Athletes of the Year, announced at the year-end banquet, scheduled for June 3 in the Antoine Room at Recreation Lanes.

The August/September Athletes of the Month were Toby Wheeler of Florence and Caleb Evosevich-Hynes of Iron Mountain, both for football, Melanie Wenzel of Kingsford for cross country and volleyball player Cassie Gill of Niagara.

The October Athletes of the Month were Marcus Johnson of Iron Mountain for football and Brianna Smith of North Dickinson for volleyball.

The November Athletes of the Month were Bryce Pietrantonio of Iron Mountain for football and Maggie Strehlow of Kingsford for volleyball.
