NORWAY — In their first action since Sept. 22, Norway hosted Escanaba in non-conference volleyball Monday evening. The Knights defeated Escanaba in straight sets 25-20, 25-15, 25-12.

“We are extremely glad to have been able to play tonight,” said Norway coach Erica Harnden. “Tonight was a much-needed night for my girls. We got a win on parent’s night and senior night, which is great.”

Unbeknownst to Harnden and Norway athletic director Joe Tinti, the Lady Eskymos sent their JV team to face the Lady Knights on the evening.

“Our girls needed a live game and the feeling of a win, we got both,” Harnden added.

Escanaba head varsity coach Adam Lambert said, “Our varsity hasn’t been in action in three weeks due to the pandemic, so we decided to bring our JV team tonight, it was a great test for them.”

Norway’s serving was excellent in the match, with seniors Kasse Kay, Cadeance Lindsley and Mackenzie Clifford standing out.

“Our serving was great tonight. It’s something we’ve really been focusing on and the girls’ hard work is showing,” Harnden said. “Everyone got a small or extended scoring run in tonight, while serving.”

Harnden also noted the strong play of her front row in the match, Olivia Stanchina, Lindsley and Clifford.

The Knights return to action Thursday as they remain home to host non-conference foe Niagara. The varsity-only match will start at 5 p.m. Norway is scheduled to travel to West Iron for another non-conference matchup on Monday.

Starting at $3.50/week.
