IRON MOUNTAIN — West Iron County senior lineman Nathan Lundin was named to the Associated Press Division 7-8 All-State First Team announced Tuesday afternoon. Lundin was the only U.P. player to be named to either the first or second teams in Division 7-8 by the AP.
Lundin was recently named the Mitchell Snyder U.P. Lineman of the Year by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters, the first Wykon to be tabbed as U.P. Lineman of the Year since Glen Dobson in 1977.
WIC head coach Mike Berutti called Lundin “a road grader” on offense. “He sometimes pushes defensive lineman or linebackers 25 yards down field,” Berutti exclaimed. “When he wasn’t tired from playing both ways, he could have his way with just about anyone across from him.”
Lundin, a four-year varsity player for the Wykons, was also named to the All-U.P. Dream Team by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association in 2020. He was also named as the 2020 West PAC Iron Division Offensive Player of the Year, a rare feat for an offensive lineman.
Three Iron Mountain players were named as honorable mentions to the AP Division 7-8 team — seniors Caleb Evosevich-Hynes at running back, Bryce Pietrantonio at linebacker and Caleb Burklund as a lineman.
Evosevich-Hynes (RB) and Burklund (DL) joined Lundin on the 2020 UPSSA Dream Team, while Pietrantonio, who was considered by some UPSSA members as a Dream Teamer, was a First Team selection at linebacker.
All three Mountaineers were also West PAC Copper Division all-conference selections at their respective postions. Evosevich-Hynes was selected as co-Offensive Player of the Year in the West PAC Copper, while Pietrantonio was selected as co-Lineman of the Year as a tight end.
Burklund was an all West PAC Copper selection a fullback as well. Evosevich-Hynes was also a AP Division 7-8 Honorable Mention at running back in 2019.
The AP Division 5-6 All-State selections will be announced Wednesday.
