FELCH — Forest Park buried 10 triples and defeated North Dickinson 53-37 on Friday to wrap up the boys basketball Skyline Conference season at the Carl F. Lemin Jr. Gymnasium in Felch.
The teams meet again at 6 p.m. Tuesday — this time in Crystal Falls — for an MHSAA Division 4 district tournament opener.
Freshman Gaven Rintala led the Trojans with 18 points — all of them trifectas. Gavin Johnson, who had two treys, added 17.
“It was good to see us hit some shots to give us a faster start than we’ve been getting and that made the rest of the game a lot easier playing with a lead,” said Trojans head coach Kurt Lehmann. “Both Gavin (Johnson) and Gaven (Rintala) had good scoring nights and Keall Emmers added six assists and Tommy Showers had a great night defensively.”
“We’re going to have to defend the three-pointer better against them on Tuesday,” said Nordics coach Chris Mattson. “Rintala had a good game.”
Maximus Mattson led North Dickinson (2-12) with 15 points. Brennan Donaldson added 11 points, including a trio of triples in the fourth quarter.
Forest Park (5-8) led 27-12 at halftime but never pulled away.
“We did some good things offensively,” coach Mattson said. “We were unselfish with the basketball. I think we’re going to be confident going up there.”
The Nordics had nine assists, including four by Donaldson.
Forest Park also won the jayvee game.
