Weather to ricochet back to spring; Wisconsin DNR seeks input on trails
Outdoors report
IRON MOUNTAIN — Following this weekend’s storm, temperatures may climb into the 50s by Wednesday, making for a rocky start to the ice fishing and snowmobile seasons.
A few fishermen have been venturing out, with no early reports on success, said Fay Whisler at Whisler Outdoors in Florence, Wis.
Vulcan Relic Riders will host their annual Vintage Snowmobile Show & Swap starting at 9 a.m. today at the William Anderson Sportsman Club in Hermansville. Admission for spectators is free.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is seeking public input on draft ATV and UTV trail guidelines that are intended to promote statewide consistency in how trails are planned, designed and constructed.
The draft guidance is available on the DNR’s public input opportunities page at https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/news/input/Guidance/FWP.
Final guidelines will serve as a reference for the DNR and other public trail providers such as local units of government, trail advocates and volunteers, advisory councils and others as they consider trail development and funding.
The public is encouraged to submit comments regarding the draft guidelines via email to: DNRFWPPRGuidance@wisconsin.gov. The deadline is Dec. 23.
The Michigan DNR reported this Upper Peninsula fishing activity:
Little Bay de Noc and Big Bay de Noc: Ice was forming in the nearshore sheltered and shallow areas but much of the bays remained open water.
