Laona-Wabeno hands Patriots first defeat

WABENO, Wis — Goodman-Pembine suffered its first defeat of the season Thursday night, a 75-52 setback to Laona-Wabeno in Northern Lakes Conference boys basketball action.

“We hung with them for 30 minutes but ran out of gas for the last six minutes,” said G-P head coach Jeff Zerbst. “They had a size advantage and much deeper bench and we did not shoot the ball very well tonight. It will be a learning experience for our young team.”

Connor Taylor of L-W led all scorers with 27 points, including four three pointers. Reed Christianson netted 18, while Michael Stamper added 13 for the Rebels. Austin Sheets and Landon Kalkofen had 12 points each to lead G-P.

“Laona-Wabeno is tough, but we will give them a run for their money when they come to Pembine in late January,” said Zerbst

The Patriots are off until Jan. 3 when they host Niagara at Pembine in a non-conference game.
