Flivvers top Ishpeming in regular season finale

ISHPEMING — Brooke Kriegl led all scorers with 15 points as Kingsford upended Ishpeming 47-39 to finish its regular season 10-10 after starting the campaign 3-7.

“It was nice to finish the second half of the season 7-3,” Flivvers head coach Lisa Harry said. “That was a goal we set after our 3-7 start. We are excited for postseason play.”

The Flivvers held Ishpeming scoreless in the first quarter and led by nine at halftime.

“We won, but it was not pretty,” Harry said. “It felt like a slow moving game. Ishpeming was very patient on offense most of the game, and I felt like it slowed us down too. We would go in spurts offensively but could never maintain much momentum.”

Kriegl was the only Flivver in double figures, hitting two triples in the game.

“Brooke is the real deal,” Ishpeming head coach Ryan Reichel said. “She didn’t play the first game and she caused issues for us tonight.

It’s been fun watching her grow as a player, but I am glad she is graduating. Always tough to prepare for such good talent.”

Kate Cook, Christy Glodowaski and Talia Wallis each added seven points for Kingsford.

Emma Poirier’s 14 points led the Hematites.

Kingsford opens district play with a bye and awaits the winner of Gladstone versus Menominee. Those teams play Monday. The Flivvers will be on the road Wednesday against whichever team advances.
