Bobcats fall to Rebels, 14-6

WABENO, Wis. — Florence was unable to overcome a 14-0 halftime deficit and fell to Laona-Wabeno 14-6 in Northern Lakes Conference eight-player football Friday.

Playing on a snow-covered field, the Bobcats couldn’t generate much offense other than a 42-yard touchdown run by Evan Johnson in the third quarter.

“We had some scoring chances that we missed on,” said coach Kent Walstrom. “They earned it,” he said of the Rebels. “A tough one to lose, though.”

Johnson finished with 72 yards rushing on 11 carries. Braden Boettcher have five carries for 29 yards and was 2 of 12 passing for 26 yards. Defensive leaders were Trent Watkins, Cody Reubens and Johnson.

The Bobcats are now 3-2 with both losses coming to Laona-Wabeno.

“We know each other so well, it seems to turn into a defensive battle,” Walstrom said.

Florence lost center/nose tackle Dominic Axley to a back injury late in the game, thinning the ranks of an already depleted line for Friday’s contest at Three Lakes.
