HOUGHTON — Stella Wickstrom tallied 17 points and Meghan Trewhella added 16 to send Houghton to a 70-42 West Pac Conference win over West Iron on Friday in Houghton in girls varsity basketball action.

The Gremlins (5-0) put the Wykons under pressure from the start, taking a 20-5 lead. The Wykons picked up their offensive production in the second and third quarters by recording 28 points overall, but the Gremlins kept their distance throughout.

“We got beat by a solid team but I am so pleased with the effort from our girls,” West Iron coach Eric Shamion said. “We competed with determination and it’s going to help build confidence in our team.”

Danica Shamion led the Wykons with a game-high 21 points. Sienna Stine and Brynlee Nodurft added six points each. All three players are sophomores for West Iron (1-4).
