Check platforms before you vote

We are a couple of weeks from the midterm election. Whether you are a Republican, Democrat or an Independent, please don’t just vote for someone because of the letter behind their name. Look at what they are planning on doing once they are elected. I personally consider myself an Independent but it is getting harder and harder to vote for Republican candidates with some of the policies they want to put in place. Now that the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe vs. Wade, the Republican party is going to extremes in taking away the rights for women’s health care. One of the men ...

Need more time on Proposal 3

Did you know that if Proposal 3 passes, minor children could obtain abortions, sterilization, puberty blockers and sex change surgery without the parental knowledge or consent? What about your parental rights? All we are hearing about is the woman’s right to choose regarding Proposal 3. The media has been very lax in telling the other side of the story about this proposal. If this proposal passes it will allow abortions up to birth. What about the rights of the unborn child? If this proposal passes, it will remove health and safety requirements of abortion facilities. What about the ...

Misinformation on Proposal 3

There has been much confusion and misinformation on Proposal 3, Reproduction Freedom for All. I hope to clear up some of the misinformation. — Myth 1: Woman can get an abortion right up to the point of birth. The state cannot take away the right to an abortion pre-viability; however, they can take away the right after fetal viability. No different than what was set 50 years ago with Roe Vs. Wade. Once the fetus can survive outside the womb without extraordinary measures an abortion cannot take place unless the life of the mother is in jeopardy. A “yes” vote will protect that ...

Vote ‘no’ on all three proposals

On the November ballot there are three proposals that would amend our state constitution and drastically change Michigan permanently. All should be voted down and soundly defeated. The wording of each is very deceptive:   — Proposal 1: Term limits and transparency for elected representatives. This will actually double the amount of years a legislator can serve. So much for limiting them!   — Proposal 2: Regarding elections, this would allow voting by mail for everyone permanently. It would make drop boxes readily available and does not require an ID be shown. Where’s the chain ...

Proposal 3 not ‘too confusing’

Proposal 3 is written in plain language, so at first I laughed at the ads. “Too confusing?” For whom? It felt a bit like being told not to worry my pretty little head; just let the menfolk handle the politics. The sheer condescension in the ad rankles. But now I’m really angry at the black lies being promulgated by these “moral” people. Received a glossy brochure stating that because the proposal doesn’t specify “adult,” any 10-year-old can get medical treatment without the parents’ knowledge. You know what else doesn’t specify “adult”? The Second Amendment (and ...

Responding to two recent letters

In response to the Letter to the Editor in Monday’s Daily News, in which one concerned citizen wrote the words that hundreds of millions of other Christian citizens agree with on the topic of abortion, I must say, Mr. Jones hit the nail on the head except for one small point, and that is, how can politicians who claim the moral high ground and say they believe in human kindness, which supposedly motivates their actions, wish to violate God’s laws and the laws of our nation by murdering innocent babies in their mother’s womb? Babies, by the way, are human. Did we forget that ...
