Sin versus righteousness

EDITOR: In response to the article on the opinion page of the Thursday, Jan. 26, Daily News, regarding what the pope says about homosexuality — three very long columns — here’s my 250-word response. Apparently, the pope of the Roman Catholic Church does not know his Bible very well. As a self-proclaimed follower of Christ, I am enraged, offended, insulted, and sorry for any readers, who may be ignorant of the scriptures and in agreement. God in His love, and mercy, wrote us His laws and basic instruction before leaving Earth in the book we label as the Bible. God, not the ...

Making our world better

January 31, 2023

EDITOR: It has been a bit since I have written but Friday was Holocaust Remembrance Day and there is also a lot of news that suggests the “world” is not making progress in fairness and decency but rather regressing in many ways. If you have a problem with another person or group because they are “different” than you because of race, color, religion, the place they originally came from or for any other reason. you might want to rethink why that is. It may not be your personal fault at all. I am of a generation that heard so many things growing up that just would not be ...

Is TikTok the new Home Ec?

January 24, 2023

EDITOR: For dinner, my daughter wowed us with an excellent pasta sauce made from roasted cherry tomatoes, and feta cheese. She learned this recipe not from her school Home Economics class but from a TikTok video on social media. Before frozen dinners, TikTok and the internet, Home Economics classes were offered to generations of Americans who learned how to cook from scratch under the supervision of a trained teacher. Knowing how to prepare economical and nutritious meals was viewed as a valuable skill. In these hard economic times, perhaps Home Ec will make a comeback in our ...

A perfect example

Dante Moore, one of the two top quarterback recruits in the country graduating this year, was originally thought to be attending the University of Michigan. Then he announced he would be attending the University of Oregon and gave the school a verbal commitment. All of sudden, he changed his mind and has signed a letter of intent to attend UCLA. Why the changes of heart? Anyone’s guess; quite honestly, I couldn’t care less. The point being it is a perfect example of how our society has changed. Many years ago, Stefan Humphries, a young black man from Florida was recruited by Bo ...

True story

January 11, 2023

EDITOR: A tribute to a good and honest Iron Mountain car salesman and veteran, Mr. Robert Baldinelli. In the early 1960s springtime, I bought from him a 1953 used Ford two-door, stick shift, flat head V8 station wagon with the big round tail lights. He said it started and ran perfect and he was correct. I called it my Fred Fintstone Mobile. Why you ask? On the driver’s side front floor, there wasn’t any. If I wanted to stop fast I could put both feet down and drag them on the gravel roads. I used to leave the big back rear window open. The dry white gravel dust would come into ...

Make your voices heard

January 9, 2023

Just over a year ago a few people decided they wanted to make a difference and they told some friends. Their friends thought it was a great idea and momentum built. These friends got involved, and their friends got involved too. Against all odds, their voices were heard. This band of rebels, like many of you, realized that both political parties were wings of the same dysfunctional bird. And without the cooperation of both wings, the bird is completely unable to fly. So these friends took a stand and went to work. If you voted recently, you may have noticed many new precinct ...
