Practices beginning this week for Michigan fall prep sports

IRON MOUNTAIN — Fall sports practices begin this week for several area schools, with special precautions and guidelines in place due to coronavirus.

Football began this morning for Iron Mountain High School. Volleyball, cross country and soccer will all begin Wednesday. Cross country will begin at 8 a.m. at the Kingsford High School track. Volleyball will meet in the Mountaineer gymnasium at 9 a.m. Soccer starts at 9 a.m. at Mountaineer Stadium.

There will be an organizational meeting for the Iron Mountain High School girl’s tennis team at 5 p.m. today at the Izzo-Mariucci Center for all girls interested in playing. New coach Marcus Celello will be there to discuss practice and the match schedule for the upcoming season. Practice is scheduled to begin Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the East Side Tennis Courts.

All IMHS student-athletes should bring water bottles to practice and face shields to practice with them each day.

Football was also underway at Kingsford High School on Monday morning. Sideline cheer reports Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the KHS track. Any 9-12 grade girls interested in tennis should report to the KHS tennis courts Wednesday at 4 p.m. Those interested in cross country should meet at the KHS track Wednesday at 8 a.m., and 9-12 grade girls interested in volleyball need to report Wednesday as well. JV meets 7:30 a.m. at the middle school gym. Freshmen start at 7:30 a.m. at the high school gym, and varsity players begin at 4 p.m. in the middle school gym.

Kingsford boys soccer begins on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Quinnesec soccer field.

All KHS student-athletes/parents must have filled out the MHSAA Health Questionnaire along with a valid physical on file from the 2019-20 school year. The questionnaire can be found at www.kingsford.org as well as at MHSAA.com.

Students are also asked to bring a face covering to practice. It is also very important that students bring a personal water bottle/jug to practice as well. More information in regards to sports schedules and information will be released when more guidance from the MHSAA is provided.

North Dickinson football begins Monday at 5 p.m., and volleyball starts Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
