Bobcats edge Elcho 60-58

FLORENCE, Wis. — Senior Braden Boettcher drained 27 points, with 24 points coming on 8 three-point baskets, as Florence eked out a 60-58 win over Northern Lakes Conference foe Elcho here Monday night.

Bobcats freshman William Kelley chipped in 11 points, while sophomore Evan Johnson added 10 in the winning effort. The Bobcats, who led 33-27 at the intermission, held on to improve to 4-3 on the season.

“I’ve been saying for a while, this team is growing up on the floor in front of us, and tonight was a great example of that. We made plays down the stretch when we needed to,” said Florence head coach Bryan Bomberg. “Elcho was able to knot it up a few times and we answered their run.”

There was no jayvee contest versus the Purple Hornets.

“I want to credit Elcho — I thought they were disciplined and played smart,” Bomberg added. “Proud of my guys for sticking together, getting the win.”

Florence remains home for another varsity only NLC matchup on Friday, as they host Phelps, with a 5:45 p.m. tip-off.
