KHS softball drops pair to Westwood
KINGSFORD — Westwood swept a doubleheader against Kingsford on Tuesday, winning 12-4 and 14-9.
“Westwood hit the ball well and ran the bases well,” Flivvers coach Cori Rice said. “We made five errors in the field (in the first game) and this is a team that takes advantage of that.”
Despite the defensive lapses, Rice credited the work of Allie Lavarnway covering the left side of the infield. “Zoie Geronimi made great plays all night at first base,” she added. “Picking balls in the dirt and stretching to get the outs.”
Elaina Bortolini, with a pair of doubles, led the Kingsford offense in the opener. Delaney Cram and Kylie Mitchell drove in runs.
Bortolini pitched both games, walking two and striking out five in the opener. She issued four walks and fanned one in the second game.
“They hit the ball consistently and we made six errors,” Rice said of the nightcap. “Delaney Cram did a great job behind the plate keeping runners from advancing on balls in the dirt.”
Mitchell cracked a triple, while freshman Maddie Jungles doubled. Macy Holmes and Lavarnway also had hits.
Kingsford (2-2) travels to Gladstone today.
